To celebrate this year's National Stuttering Awareness Week, the University of Michigan Speech Neurophysiology Lab is seeking young artists for the Art of Stuttering Contest and Exhibition. Children of all ages (18 and under) are encouraged to submit their own original artwork. Winners and selected submissions will have their artwork featured in the lab's newsletter and displayed on the lab's website during National Stuttering Awareness Week (May 9–15). First, second, and third place winners will also receive a gift card.
Have fun, get creative, and show us what stuttering means to you! We can't wait to see what you create!
Show us what stuttering awareness means to you! Your art can show us the challenges you've overcome or the dreams you have for the future. Your art could show us what it feels like when you use your voice to speak up. Your art could show us what you wish others knew about stuttering.
If you aren't a child who stutters, but have a friend or family member who does, your art can show us the ways you offer them support and what that person means to you in your life.
First, second, and third place winners will receive a gift card to a retailer of their choice.
Drawings, paintings, 3-D and/or sculptural pieces (could be made with clay, fiber, cardboard, papier mache, natural objects, or other mixed media).
Just make sure the art comes from your child's own effort. No AI-generated art, please.
All submissions must be received by 11:59pm on Sunday, April 26, 2026.
Submit your child's artwork using our contest entry form. Winners will be announced during National Stuttering Awareness Week which runs May 9–15.
