Mr. Matt Smith matches donations on Giving Blue Day
University of Michigan is hosting Giving Blue Day taking place on Tuesday, November 29th. Consider supporting the Matthew K. Smith Stuttering Research Fund. This is a funding drive to help support stuttering research at the University of Michigan. Donations will be matched up to $10k by our generous donor, Mr. Matt Smith.

Notice of Award Received

SNL hosts viewing of "The Way We Talk"
SNL hosted the viewing of "The Way We Talk", a documentary on stuttering, at the Studio C theater in East Lansing, MI. Dr. Chang answered questions from the audience on a range of topics on stuttering following the viewing. Jeff Fett, stuttering support group leader in the Lansing chapter, and many of the MSU CSD faculty and students, and area clinicians attended.

Dr. Chow receives Notice of Award for NIH R21
Dr. Chow, Research Investigator of SNL, received a Notice of award from the NIH on his new R21 grant, Neural markers of persistence and recovery from childhood stuttering: An fMRI study of continuous speech production. Congratulations to Dr. Chow and the lab for receiving funding for this exciting new study!

Dr. Chang travels to Japan for presentation
Dr. Chang was an invited speaker at the 4th meeting of the Japan Society of stuttering and other fluency disorders, held in Tokorozawa, Japan (September 1-3). She delivered a talk entitled "Anomalous brain connectivity in children with persistent developmental stuttering".

Dr. Garnett was selected to attend the 2016 New York City Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Fellowship: Advanced Hands-on Training and Certification, held from August 22-26th at the Center for Discovery and Innovation and the MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care.

Doctoral student Liz Wieland awarded Student Research Travel Award from ASHA
Doctoral student Liz Wieland was awarded a Student Research Travel Award from ASHA for her convention talk this coming November, Rhythm perception and functional connectivity differences in adults who stutter (co-authors include Devin McAuley, Ho Ming Chow, David Zhu, and Soo-Eun Chang). This award is given to the student who has the highest-rated student-authored paper in its convention topic area. Congratulations Liz!
